ELVIS IS BACK IN THE BUILDING
“Art is about choices,” reads one of the pieces we designed for “Elvis at 21: Photographs by Alfred Wertheimer,” a traveling exhibition that shows the rock-and-roll icon at the point in his career just before he skyrocketed to international fame. Our choices in creating the exhibit layout guide (a space-design roadmap for museums hosting the exhibit), signage, advertisements, brochures, CD covers, and other elements started with this: capture the sophistication the project deserves with a design that reinforces—rather than competes with—Wertheimer’s magnificent work. “Elvis at 21” premiered at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles in January 2010, the opening coinciding with Elvis’s 75th birthday.
